Yuba City High's Max Stassi started off on the right foot Friday as he and the USA 18U Baseball Team beat the JUCO All Stars, 5-1, at Phoenix Municipal Stadium in Arizona.

Stassi started at catcher and hit fifth in the lineup. He went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and a run scored.

This was the team's first game of the summer; it will take on the JUCO All-Stars again tonight in Phoenix.

Stassi and the USA team are preparing this week for the IBAF Junior Championships, which will be held in Edmonton, Canada. The team will travel to Canada on Sunday to play a series of exhibition games before the championships start on July 25.

Stassi is going for his third consecutive gold medal. He took home gold with the 16U team in 2006 and 2007.
